Integrated Science

Introduction

Integrated Science (I.S.) is a compulsory subject for students of Secondary One to Secondary Two in our school. We had the arrangement on teaching I.S. in English in order to improve students’ language proficiency. For this subject, we pay equal attention to teaching and experiment. Starting from junior secondary, students will be trained on operating apparatuses so that to let students understand the important of experimental safety and to build a better foundation in order to consolidate the later high school curriculum. In addition, I.S. also places great emphasis on stimulating students’ interest in science, so apart from normal lesson, science-related exchange programme and visits will also be held.

Goals

It is hoped that through participation in science-related exchange programme and visits, students’ interest in science will be aroused. At the same time, through related activities, students will be able to build up their communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills. In addition, through different model design activities, students can develop a spirit of collaboration to enhance organizational skills, analytical skills, sorting and expression skills so as to adapt the life and challenges in the 21st century.

Activities

Integrated Science will infiltrate the teaching elements of STEM, to have the interdisciplinary cooperation with Design and Technology, Mathematics and Computer. For example, every year students will conduct some model design, such as: “solar car” and “water rocket”.
